Description: The Dam Inundation Zones layer displays the location of downstream inundation areas that would result from a type of dam failure in Virginia as tracked by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation's (DCR) Dam Safety program. This layer also contains dam IdNumber and LegacyNumber identifiers that allow the features to be linked to their corresponding dam. The Dam Inundation Zone boundaries are provided to DCR by Consultants and Professional Engineers via GIS files during the Inundation Study approval process or as found in Archived files. All data are updated as DCR time permits and this data is limited to the avaiablity of PE approved GIS files, there is no scheduled update or maintenance cycle for this layer. Please note that all spatial and attribute data provided are estimates and populated to the best of DCR staff knowledge and where data are available.
